NBG Printographic – a manufacturer of flexo and offset printing, and converting machines – recently launched an automatic square-bottom paper bag-making machine branded QUAD in collaboration with Chinese manufacturer ZNEP (pronounced Zono) and a folder gluer named STARFOLD, at an open house at its facility in Haryana. The QUAD machine has been developed in collaboration with ZNEP.
According to Nitin Garg, director of the company, the open house – organized between 27-29 June – received a positive response from visitors. A first of its kind for the company, it may even become an annual event, he said.
“The paper bag industry is growing in India due to sustainability norms in action. The plastic ban and consumer awareness are factors enabling this growth. Most importantly, governments worldwide are pushing for it as there is no alternative. From online purchases to the neighborhood kirana stores, everybody is shifting to paper bags or paper-based packaging. We want to be the enablers for the Indian manufacturers to cover the global markets as well.”
“In collaboration with ZNEP, we have manufactured a semi-automatic square-bottom paper bag-making machine. The designs of the machine are from ZNEP but the manufacturing has been 100% indigenized, emphasizing maintaining tolerances and metallurgy of the components with the minutest detail. The machine runs at a capacity of more than 200 meters per minute. Wherever sustainable packaging is being practiced, this machine can be of great significance,” he says.
Speaking on production and sales, Yogesh Kharbanda, CEO, said, “Some trading companies are buying low-cost machines from China – that too from multiple suppliers – and labeling it with their name. They have no control over engineering or critical components. We have positioned ourselves to cater to customers who are looking at value for money. Our machines are completely India-built. Automatic bag-making has another segment with machines that have an inline handle pasting section and those are imported directly from ZNEP. More than 100 well-known customers are successfully running them all over India.”
“While developing a machine, we focus on mapping our customer’s customers and deeply understand the market requirement and efficiencies required. We strive to focus on delivering solutions that allow our customers to ‘earn more per square meter’ from their installed machines. We have a huge range of solutions for converters working for QSR chains,” Kharbanda adds.
According to Kharbanda, all big-time providers are conforming to ESG standards, recyclable products are in demand and the consumer too is coming forth with their preferences. ”Our machine produces zero waste, unlike other similar machines in the market. The launch has created a stir. Customers from various parts of the country visited us and checked our products. This open house was successful and we are thinking of making it an annual event.”
Sanjay Kumar, director of operations of NBG Printographic, says the bag-making machine has a shelf life of 30 years. “For this particular machine’s resilience, we have tended to metallurgy specifically as per the latest norms in technology and equipment. Ours is the fastest bag-making machine in India. Our converting customers supply to the Gulf, African, and European countries, so this machine caters to all speed requirements as per their needs. With an impeccable design from our Chinese partner and our selective engineering, this machine will prove to be a big asset among the paper converters.”
Packaging South Asia — resilient, growing and impactful — daily, monthly — always responsive
The 18-year-old multi-channel B2B in print and digital platform matches the industry’s high growth trajectory. The Indian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Middle East packaging industries are increasing capacity and diversification, with high technology and automation in new projects.
We are mid-way through 2024, and India’s real GDP growth for FY 24-25 will exceed 6.3%. The packaging industry growth will match the GDP growth in volume terms and likely surpass it by at least 2.5% according to our research company www.ippstar.org .
The capacity for flexible film manufacturing in India has increased significantly over the past four years. We expect another 20% capacity addition in 2024 and 2025. Capacities in monocartons, corrugation, aseptic liquid packaging, and labels are growing similarly. As the consumption story returns, we expect demand to return and exceed the growth trajectory of previous years. The numbers are positive for most of the economies in the region – and as shown by our analytics, our platform increasingly reaches and influences these.
For responsible and sustainable packaging, with its attendant regulations and compliances, there is significant headroom to grow in India and the region. Our impactful coverage includes the entire packaging supply chain – from concept to shelf, to waste collection, sorting, and recycling. India is where the leading suppliers to the packaging industry are shifting their manufacturing – an opportunity with stable supply chains and low-cost production efficiencies.
We target brand owners, product managers, raw material suppliers, packaging designers and converters, co-packers, and recyclers. If you want to reach them, your agility and innovation shown on the industry-leading platform can do some of the heavy lifting.
